January 27th, 1991 – Whitney Houston’s Super Bowl National Anthem
Picture this: It’s Super Bowl XXV. The crowd’s hyped, tensions are high (hello, Gulf War), and out comes Whitney Houston in a white tracksuit looking like an angel sent directly from heaven. She opens her mouth, and boom — she delivers the National Anthem so flawlessly, it’s still considered the GOAT performance of all time. We’re talking chills-on-chills level perfection.
January 28th, 1985 – “We Are the World” is Born
Imagine a room packed with the world’s biggest stars — Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and more — all trying not to outshine each other while recording a single for charity. "We Are the World" wasn’t just a song; it was a full-on moment. The track raised millions for famine relief and gave us the ultimate “celebrity crossover event” before Avengers even existed.
January 29th, 1964 – The Beatles Hit the U.S. Charts
Hold onto your mop tops: The Beatles entered the U.S. charts for the first time with "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Within weeks, America was gripped by Beatlemania, and teenage girls were screaming like their lives depended on it. Little did we know, this was just the beginning of the Fab Four’s world domination.
January 30th, 1969 – The Beatles’ Rooftop Farewell
Fast forward five years, and The Beatles were bidding adieu to live performances with an impromptu rooftop concert at Apple Corps HQ. Picture this: four legends in fur coats and scruffy beards belting out "Get Back" while confused Londoners looked up and wondered what the heck was happening. Iconic chaos.
January 31st, 1970 – The Jackson 5 Hit #1
The Jackson 5 scored their first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with "I Want You Back." The infectious track not only launched the career of a young Michael Jackson but also set the stage for Motown's domination of the charts in the 1970s.
February 1st, 2004 – Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl “Wardrobe Malfunction”
Ah, the infamous halftime show that launched a thousand FCC complaints. Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s performance at Super Bowl XXXVIII ended with the mother of all wardrobe malfunctions, sparking debates about censorship, live TV, and, of course, nipple covers.
February 2nd, 1976 – Genesis Passes the Mic to Phil Collins
When Peter Gabriel left Genesis, everyone thought it was the end. Enter Phil Collins, the band’s drummer-turned-reluctant-frontman, who stepped up to the mic and made the band even more successful. Cue "In the Air Tonight" drum solo, and thank you, Phil, for keeping the Genesis flame alive.
